Please humour me

Isn't humour a painfully underrated virtue? And one that not many people posses? I like an infectious sense of humour, dry humour, dark humour and quirky sense of humour. And I like to think that I possess them all and am good in them too. I used to tell Best Friend I am so funny leh, but why he is so boring that I fell asleep during dinner in a food court?

Making jokes is deemed a duty of the man. Well, I am half a man. So I poke fun at myself or make quirky observations about life and people I know. I do it because I like it. And I also like to think that I am sensitive enough not to hurt someone and know when to end the seemingly funny conversation and not over board and be a pain in the ass. But for a man, it is his precious chance to hold court, direct the show and get some much-needed attention from the fairer sex. They like to think that they are naturally funny and it apparently gives them a nice ego lift. The girls' responsibility is to sit there and giggle, hands over their mouths. Well, even I am guilty of that, mostly because I am sensitive to their ego and if it is not going to kill me to pretend to laugh at their attempts, I would laugh.

So if you hear a man laugh when he is with a girl, and that girl happens to be not me, it's not the girl's doing, it is the dude laughing at his own joke and probably sniggering at the fact she's eating out of his hand. Sometimes their egos get the better of them and they do not draw the line between being funny and being irritating.

Hey wake up! You are not funny. I am.
